ICELAND

“We see the effects of climate change before our eyes. Human action has made this change more extreme. It is the will of the majority of the people of Iceland, to take part in doing what we can to mitigate the effects that humankind has had on nature.”

Iceland’s President, G. Johannesson

Iceland is very forward and progressive in terms of environment, with its residents and businesses receiving almost all of its heating and electricity generation from renewable sources, such as hydro and geothermal energy. Iceland is the land of fire and ice, after all.

However, perhaps you have heard more recently of Iceland’s greatest creation?

Home to the famous ORCA plant, since 2021, this has been the world’s largest operational system for carbon capture and storage, and put Iceland on the map as a real innovator and country that is proactive for climate.

Carbon Neutrality before 2040, and a 30 percent reduction in Greenhouse emissions, and overall emissions by 55 percent by 2030 as part of the ICAP, the Iceland Climate Action Plan.

See the adjacent video for details on the climate plan.
