Sanibel and Captiva Islands, Florida

9 months after Ian

  • Hurricane Ian- 9 months later

-The Costliest Hurricane in Florida history at 113 billion and counting.

-Third costliest Natural disaster in US history.

-With wind gusts over 150 mph, and a 16-17 foot storm surge, the barrier islands of Sanibel Island & Captiva became flooded in hours, and eventually causing the bridge connecting the mainland to the island to disintegrate, trapping residents.

-The combination of both high tides and king tides, at the time of landfall, made the storm surge particularly extreme, compared to other near Category 5 storms.

-9 months later, I visited the islands to capture progress of the rebuilding, and hope for Sanibel and Captiva, and bring their story to light through the truth of pictures.
